Guided Fly Fishing Adventures

McKenzie River
Fly Fishing

The native rainbow trout and hatchery stocks of McKenzie River are abundant, willing, and world-class. There’s a healthy population of native cutthroat trout, too. It’s not uncommon to land an 18+ inch rainbow trout.

Santiam River
Fly Fishing

Like the McKenzie River, the Santiams lend themselves as beautiful classrooms for beginners to learn about fly fishing casting and techniques. And the trout here are willing teachers. And, of course, veteran anglers, too, will catch trout to remember throughout the day. As with all my guided fishing trips, no wading is required….

Rogue River
Fly Fishing

If I might indulge in a gambling analogy . . . Steelhead fly fishing is like repeatedly pulling the handle on a slot machine: the more good casts you make in likely waters, the greater the likelihood you will “hit the jackpot”. To increase your odds of hooking a steelhead cover the water quickly and completely, then get to the next downstream casino.

Siletz River Winter
Steelhead Fly Fishing

As a Siletz River fly fishing guide, I have to deal with the changing conditions and the occasional crowds in pursuit of these fabulous fish. It’s helpful for me to think of it as a game of chess. The chess pieces are flies, angling techniques, fly fishing equipment, the sections of the river to be fished, and the angler’s attention to his or her fishing coach.

Nestucca River Winter
Steelhead Fly Fishing

Because the Nestucca is blessed with an abundance of riffles, runs, and fish-holding pools, the fly angler will never want for excellent water which might hold a biting steelhead. Fishing from a boat, we can cover many river miles in a fishing day, accessing water unavailable to bank anglers.

My Books

Flies, techniques, equipment-all the basics are covered. Then Gorman takes it a step further by giving you invaluable real-world tactics for overcoming the many challenges that can get in the way of your steelheading success-crowded rivers, rude anglers, your own frustration and impatience, lack of knowledge and skills, changing river conditions, temperamental steelhead… Now you can set up your own strategic plan for effectively dealing with them.
